The history of the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel & Spa is a story of the power of love. The hotel was established in 1874 where it grew from a small Inn to a sprawling resort, host to dignitaries and celebrities. The rich history of the hotel was protected for 20 years by a small group of champions as it sat vacant on the hill in New Castle after the doors closed. Finally, in 2003 –in time for the 130th birthday– The Wentworth came back to life, restored to her original glory. The Wentworth is more than a hotel, it is a testament to survival and the power of love sustained across time. We had the pleasure of speaking with Gina Damiano who gave a sneak peak into planning a wedding at Wentworth by the Sea.
GO: How does your property distinguish a couple’s experience as opposed to getting married somewhere else?
GD: It is this history and dedication that sets us apart from any other wedding location. The same attention to detail that was put into restoring the hotel is focused on each bride and groom to make sure that her day exceeds every expectation. Every couple has a dedicated wedding coordinator that guides them through each step of the process. We rely on years of experience to make sure that the wedding day is seamless and stress-free.
GO: From start to finish, what can a couple expect if they choose to get married at your property?
GD: From the moment a couple steps through the front doors, they are whisked into the world of weddings! They are guided through the property by one of our experienced wedding coordinators where each private tour is tailored to the couple and their vision for the wedding day. Our goal is to provide as much guidance as we can so that our couples don’t have to stress out! The Wentworth hosts a Grand Tasting each year for our couples to attend. At each tasting, we present a variety of table designs, centerpieces and event additions to assist in the planning. We offer a menu tasting, as well. Once the couple has attended the tasting event, a planning session is scheduled with their personal coordinator where all of the wedding details are discussed.
For the wedding weekend, the couple’s coordinator assists in all the on-site details from check-in to rehearsal to the wedding day itself. There are a variety of highly trained professionals involved in executing the wedding from start to finish. No detail is missed!
GO: If you had to describe your property in three words, what would they be?
GD: Elegance, Grandeur and Sophistication!
GO: What are the unique locations that a couple can host their ceremony and reception at in your venue?
GD: The Wentworth has three beautiful ballrooms to host weddings from 30 to 250 people.
The Wentworth Ballroom, our grandest of all, holds up to 250 guests. The formal decor combined with a private reception area for romantic cocktail receptions are the perfect combination for the wedding of any couple’s dreams.
The Grand Ballroom: This original ballroom was exquisitely restored including the original stage and woodwork, offers an intimate feel of early New England and Victorian charm. Our Grand Ballroom and attached bridal suite with its own private formal staircase is a perfect setting for up to
The Garden Ballroom: Most popular in the spring and summer months, the
Garden Ballroom offers its own beautiful private veranda. The doors open directly onto the veranda where you can enjoy your cocktail reception outside with breathtaking water views of the bay while overlooking areas of the Wentworth gardens. The Garden Ballroom is the perfect setting for smaller weddings or cocktail receptions for up to 80 guests.
GO: Do you have areas where a couple can elect to take their wedding pictures at your property?
GD: The Wentworth Gardens offer the perfect setting for formal photographs. Our team of dedicated groundskeepers work non-stop to create the most spectacular gardens for any season. Aside from the beautiful floral creations, we have picturesque gazebos and white Adirondack chairs perfect for the couple to take pictures in!
GO: Do you have customizable packages? Tell me a little bit about them?
GD: The Wentworth offers three packages. All of our packages include a suite for the couple, hors d’oeuvres for the cocktail reception, open bar, champagne toast, three-course dinner menu, custom floral centerpieces, custom tiered wedding cake, escort cards and table numbers. Depending on the package chosen, we may also include chiavari chairs, wine service with dinner, flowers for the cocktail tables, upgraded linens and centerpieces, espresso bar and raw bar with ice sculpture among other things.
GO: Food is such an important element at a wedding; tell me about your menus/culinary team?
GD: Our culinary team is lead by Master Chef Dan Dumont and Executive Sous Chef Matt Louis. Using only the highest quality ingredients, many of them local, we create unforgettable menus for our couples. Our chefs are constantly striving to exceed expectations for all of our guests. When I speak with couples after the wedding, the most common thing they tell me is that their guests cannot stop raving to them about how amazing the food was. It’s music to my ears!
