Experience a stylish, contemporary, accessible Dallas hotel, Ritz-Carlton, Dallas — where glamour, graciousness and the Texas spirit meet. The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas is ideally located in the chic, picturesque enclave of uptown, adjacent to downtown Dallas, on the McKinney Avenue Trolley Line. The luxury hotel is within walking distance to gourmet dining, upscale shopping, sightseeing, galleries, professional sports games, live entertainment, outdoor parks and downtown’s largest urban arts district in the United States.

ritz-carlton-dallas-wedding-style-001GO: If you had to describe the property in three words, what would they be?
RCD: World-Class. Experiential. Memorable.

GO: Food is such an important element at a wedding; tell me about your menus/culinary team?
RCD: The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas recently experienced the fortunate addition of Chef Chris Southwick as Executive of Culinary and Food & Beverage, overseeing all hotel culinary activities, including weddings. Chef Southwick not only holds an impressive background with leadership at some of The Ritz-Carlton’s top hotels, including Sanya, Sarasota, Moscow and Palm Beach, he’s charismatic, energetic and alive with creativity, making him the ideal culinary partner for our brides & grooms. He leads the team to customize each menu, ensuring it suits the vision of the evening.

Another wonderful benefit of hosting a wedding at The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas is our in-house pastry chef, Corey Thomson. Chef Thomson has created numerous newsworthy wedding cakes and desserts, such as seasonally-flavored macaroons in pear, salted caramel, passion fruit, and rose with rosewater buttercream.

GO: What do you do for couples and their guests that set you apart from everyone else?
RCD: First and foremost, couples can feel confident due to the level of personal attention and commitment from the hotel’s senior leadership team throughout the entire wedding process.

For planning details, the Event Design Studio at The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas is the ultimate resource in the creation of customized events. Couples are welcome to invite their event planner within this private space to select from an array of the finest linens, china and specialty décor available. Private tastings by our culinary team are also possible within this space.

For weddings with a minimum of 150 guests, The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas provides couples with a complimentary deluxe suite guest room with a rose petal turndown on the night of their wedding. The hotel also happily coordinates anniversary stays to ensure lasting memories for years to come. Additionally, the hotel offers weddings with 250 plus attendees access to a private valet entrance and valet service staff, providing a convenient and seamless arrival/departure process.

GO: What are some of the amenities/special activities that you offer for a couple planning to have a weekend wedding?
RCD: The hotel orchestrates a variety of unique offerings and packages for wedding festivities including:

  • Welcoming wine receptions for wedding guests in the hotel’s three connecting Arboretum Rooms or the outdoor Live Oak Bar.
  • Rehearsal dinners in the Sendero, a glass enclosed pavilion overlooking outdoor gardens and water features, at the hotel’s award-winning Fearing’s Restaurant by celebrity chef Dean Fearing.
  • Wedding party packages at the 12,000 square-foot Ritz-Carlton Spa, including ‘Manicures & Mimosas’ for the bridal party and ‘Groom the Groomsmen’ for the husband-to-be and his main men.
  • Ceremonies and receptions in The Ritz-Carlton, Ballroom – the largest luxury ballroom in Dallas which can be divided and setup for a variety of celebrations.

GO: Do you have unique guest spaces, where out of town guests can feel like they’re also on vacation?
RCD: Absolutely. Our saline-treated rooftop pool and outdoor terrace is the perfect place to sip cocktails and soak in the Texas sun. The hotel also offers a nightly Guacamologist™ experience at 6 p.m. in the hotel lobby where a chef prepares fresh tableside guacamole and a tasting of our signature margaritas. After the experience, I highly recommend a visit to Fearing’s Restaurant. It’s been recognized as one of the top 10 hotel restaurants in the world and offers phenomenal Elevated American Cuisine by Chef Dean Fearing. The restaurants two bars – The Rattlesnake Bar and Live Oak Bar, are also terrific places to people watch and catch a glimpse of the Dallas social scene.

When it comes to accommodations, The Ritz-Carlton Club® Level is a must try. It’s the only experience of its kind within the city of Dallas, offering a private concierge and continuous complimentary culinary offerings, including light snacks, hors d’ oeuvres, champagne and cocktails. Additionally, Club Level guests are invited to partake in a new Friday Night Flights offering when a rotating presentation of regional tastes and sips, such as cheeses from nearby creameries, handmade Texas salsas, local jams and preserves, and decants of Texas wines and brews are presented in the hotel’s key-required Club Lounge.

Spotlight on White Dresses Boutique, Alabama

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013

In the 1930s, Madie Ella Leonard opened a fine dress store in an Alabama town. Convinced that mixing the fashions of the Big Apple with service drenched in Southern charm would create a shop people would have to revisit, Madie purchased her first lines of inventory. Though many told her Alabama couldn’t handle couture, Madie went on to operate one of the most influential dress shops in the South. With the same love of couture and desire to bring something new to the Alabama bridal market, Madie’s nieces, along with their mom, opened White Dresses. White Dresses blends couture bridal gowns with service dunked in Southern charm to create a bridal shopping experience unlike any other.

WhiteDresses-001

GO: How long have you been in business?
WD: We opened our quaint little bridal boutique at the end of January 2013. However, we started planning our shop far earlier! We modeled the boutique after our Great Great Aunt’s couture clothing shop and are so excited to carry on a similar family business.

GO: What designers do you carry?
WD: White Dresses offers a host of fabulous designers that are exclusive to our bridal salon in the Southeast, including Marchesa, Rosa Clará, Sareh Nouri, Jesús Peiró, Anna Maier ~ Ulla-Maija, Stephanie Allin, Palazzo, and Hayley Paige.

GO: Do you offer alterations?
WD: White Dresses does not offer in-house alterations. However, we do suggest an alterations specialist for brides who purchase and will facilitate the first fitting with the alterations specialist at our shop.

GO: Do you sell accessories/veils/shoes?
WD: We do sell accessories and veils!

White Dresses offers a host of designers for veils, including Toni Federici, Nilah & Company, Marisol Aparicio, and Enchanted Atelier. We also offer many different accessories, including belts, headpieces and jewelry from wonderful designers across the United States, including a.b. Ellie, Elisabeth Newton, and Elizabeth Bower.

GO: Do you have options for mothers/bridesmaids/children?
WD: White Dresses is the proud Alabama home of Dolly Pearl, which can translate well to a mothers dress or a bridesmaid dress! While we have many of the samples in store in a variation of ivory or blush, Dolly Pearl offers many great colors and we can order any dress in any color!

GO: Do you have a Trunk Show Schedule?
WD: Yes! We keep our website updated with upcoming trunk shows under the Events page!

GO: What is your salon’s mission?
WD: White Dresses is focused on more than helping a bride find a gorgeous white dress, our goal is to provide a bride an experience that is unparalleled by any bridal boutique. From the moment a bride walks into our store, we make sure she is comfortable and we learn more about her than just her name and wedding date. Our brides are special and we want to make sure they feel that way!

GO: What unique services do you offer brides? What makes your salon stand apart from others?
WD: Our salon offers a Pure White Appointment and a Dressing Service. The experience at our salon makes it different than any other bridal boutique!

GO: In your own words, describe the bridal salon experience that brides will receive when visiting your salon.
WD: White Dresses modeled its business plan after our Great Great Aunt’s couture clothing store and one thing Aunt Madie always preached was making sure you were more than just a salesperson showing off amazing clothing! When a bride comes to our store, they are greeted outside with a personalized sign congratulating them on their appointment. Our consultants know the bride’s name before they ever walk in! We sit down and learn about them by diving into their wedding. We want to be more than someone who helps them slip on a dress, we want to be their friend and confidant. We get to know the bride, their family, and build a true relationship. When a bride selects her dress, her experience doesn’t end there – we continue the relationship by keeping in touch with the bride and sending them a special treat on their big day!

GO: What are your hours?
WD: White Dresses is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., but we are all about service so we will come in as early or late as needed for our brides (whether it is on an off day or not)!

GO: Anything special you want your readers to know?
WD: White Dresses isn’t your everyday bridal boutique – the owners were raised on this stuff! We grew up having Aunt Madie teach us about laces on her front porch in the Southern summer heat! Aunt Madie’s lessons were deeper than fabric lessons, though. She taught us about knowing your clients, being truly open with others, and not being afraid to give – because the rewards you reap from giving are far greater than any gown sales could be. Learning these lessons when we were young makes us far better at our job now.

Surprise Elements: Leyna & Tho Get Married

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

Leyna Tran and Tho Doan
Married in Costa Mesa, California on June 30, 2012

According to Leyna:

Being the owner of Leyna’s Kitchen, where I specialize in cupcakes, having a sweets table just wasn’t enough, so I created a pink and white “Sweets Lounge,” which consisted of a custom chandelier cupcake tower filled with my award-winning Strawberrilicious cupcakes, an attendant making fresh organic cotton candy, 40 glass domes filled with pink and white Parisian macaroons and imported Valrhona chocolate truffles.

Wanting to do something equally extraordinary for my husband, I reached out to my friends at Hennessy and they surprised us with launching their newly-remodeled VSOP bottle and gifted us a stunning custom bar with our monogram right across the front to match our wedding. It was spectacular!

I am naturally very detailed so almost everything was custom. We created surprise elements throughout the evening for our guests, as well as for each other. My husband was in a music video for a famous Vietnamese singer, Trish, called “Ever After.” We chose that song for our first dance, and I had arranged for her to make a surprise appearance. Tho in turn, pleasantly surprised me with fireworks.

My sister, Kim Meredith, is the owner and floral designer of Letu Floral Design. She did such an incredible job creating my Chanel bridal bouquet purses, a floral chandelier for the ceremony, and had hanging miniature chandeliers inside the vase of every centerpiece at the reception in addition to the breathtakingly beautiful large bouquets on top.

Our venue, Turnip Rose, allowed me to bring in my own chefs. Our menu was entirely custom to us, “Bride’s Pink Soup” which was a chilled beet soup with crème fraîche and caviar, table side service, and the “Groom’s Bacon Salad” which was actually Pork Belly and heirloom tomatoes. To show our gratitude we gifted our chefs with jackets with our monogram embroidered with their names.

An Immediate Connection: Nicole & Eric Get Married

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012

Nicole Cornetta and Eric Foster
Married in New York, New York on April 28, 2012

“He likes to tell people I picked him up at a bar!” says Nicole Cornetta. Eric Foster laughs: “As soon as I saw her I felt an immediate connection.” The truth is, the couple actually met at a wedding and immediately hit it off. They exchanged numbers and Eric didn’t wait to call Nicole. In fact, he rang her at 8 a.m. the next morning, and as they say: the rest is history.

“Eric works in finance and is often prompted to entertain clients with dinners and such,” explains Nicole. One night they were supposed to meet clients at their room at the Mandarin Oriental New York before heading to dinner at Per Se. As they opened the clients’ hotel room Nicole was completely taken aback as she opened the door to see thousands of cherry blossom trees (a favorite of hers) filling the room. After looking around she realized that Eric was down on one knee, proposing.

And that wasn’t the only surprise: Eric arranged for the head chef at Masa to prepare their favorite meal right there in the room. It “was extremely extraordinary, as Masa was the location in which our first I love you’s were exchanged,” shares Nicole. And just when she didn’t think it could get any better, Eric topped off the weekend, the following night with a surprise celebratory cocktail party at the hotel where they were joined by friends and family to celebrate their engagement.

Their wedding planning included hiring some of New York’s finest to make their special day everything they dreamt of at dramatic Gotham Hall.

Location: Gotham Hall, New York, NY; Cake: Sylvia Weinstock, New York, NY; Event Planner and Design: David Beahm Design, New York, NY; Band: Steve Delisi Band for Hank Lane Music and Productions, New York, NY; Stationery: Alpine Creative Group, New York, NY; Tuxedo: Tom Ford; Shoes: Jimmy Choo and Brian Atwood; Jewelry: Marisa Perry, New York, NY; Hair and Makeup: Face Time Beauty Concierge, New York, NY; Wedding Gown: Monique Lhuillier; Veil: Rivini; After-Party Outfit: Stella McCartney; Photography: Anthony Vazquez Photography, New York, NY; Cinematography: Joseph Edwards Films, New York, NY

Almost a Decade: Jill & Kevin Get Married

Monday, October 1st, 2012

Jill Arnold and Kevin Martin
Married in Clearwater Beach, Florida on July 15, 2011

“If you talk to Kevin,” says Jill Arnold, “he will say I rejected him in high school. But the real story is we were both very shy teenagers that never followed through after the first phone call.” A year behind her at Zanesville High School in Ohio, Kevin Martin got Jill’s number from a mutual friend. They talked, even had a class in common two years later, but nothing more came of it at the time.

While they were in college they instant messaged every now and then, and even swapped numbers again texting a few times, but it wasn’t until April of 2007, almost a decade later, when a taken Kevin told Jill that he was coming to town for the weekend that things just seemed to click. Not long after the visit he and his girlfriend parted ways. “I finally built up the courage to approach the woman I have always wanted to be with,” shares Kevin. Unable to deny the attraction, “We quickly became serious,” remembers Jill, “and before I knew it, I was taking red eyes back and forth to Sacramento so we could spend the weekend together and I could make it back in time for work on Monday.”

The following June, Jill moved to Sacramento to be with Kevin where she “fell even more in love than I ever thought possible.”

A little over four years after they started dating, Jill and Kevin exchanged vows on the Gulf Lawn at Sandpearl Resort in Clearwater Beach, Florida. Cocktail hour consisted of a bounty of food including sushi, passed hors d’oeuevres and different stations, as well as signature cocktails like the Martin-tini. Afterwards, the reception was in the Hunter Ballroom with breathtaking views of the ocean below.

Memorable moments include the couples grand entrance where they came in to the song “Bottoms Up” by Nicki Minaj each holding a bottle of their favorite champagne: Veuve Clicquot. Another highlight, was the oreo bar station, which also served as favors for the guests featuring the couple’s favorite cookie alongside milk shooters.

Location and Caterer: Sandpearl Resort, Clearwater Beach, FL; Cake: Cakes Plus, Tampa, FL; Event Planner: Sandy Rule, Sandy Rule Events Inc., Tampa, FL; Floral Design, Décor and Rentals: Botanica International Design Studio, Tampa, FL; Draping: Design Elements, Ft. Ayala Yasgur and David Lallouz were married at a country club on Long Island near where Ayala grew up.
