An Immediate Connection: Nicole & Eric Get Married

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012

Nicole Cornetta and Eric Foster
Married in New York, New York on April 28, 2012

“He likes to tell people I picked him up at a bar!” says Nicole Cornetta. Eric Foster laughs: “As soon as I saw her I felt an immediate connection.” The truth is, the couple actually met at a wedding and immediately hit it off. They exchanged numbers and Eric didn’t wait to call Nicole. In fact, he rang her at 8 a.m. the next morning, and as they say: the rest is history.

“Eric works in finance and is often prompted to entertain clients with dinners and such,” explains Nicole. One night they were supposed to meet clients at their room at the Mandarin Oriental New York before heading to dinner at Per Se. As they opened the clients’ hotel room Nicole was completely taken aback as she opened the door to see thousands of cherry blossom trees (a favorite of hers) filling the room. After looking around she realized that Eric was down on one knee, proposing.

And that wasn’t the only surprise: Eric arranged for the head chef at Masa to prepare their favorite meal right there in the room. It “was extremely extraordinary, as Masa was the location in which our first I love you’s were exchanged,” shares Nicole. And just when she didn’t think it could get any better, Eric topped off the weekend, the following night with a surprise celebratory cocktail party at the hotel where they were joined by friends and family to celebrate their engagement.

Their wedding planning included hiring some of New York’s finest to make their special day everything they dreamt of at dramatic Gotham Hall.

Location: Gotham Hall, New York, NY; Cake: Sylvia Weinstock, New York, NY; Event Planner and Design: David Beahm Design, New York, NY; Band: Steve Delisi Band for Hank Lane Music and Productions, New York, NY; Stationery: Alpine Creative Group, New York, NY; Tuxedo: Tom Ford; Shoes: Jimmy Choo and Brian Atwood; Jewelry: Marisa Perry, New York, NY; Hair and Makeup: Face Time Beauty Concierge, New York, NY; Wedding Gown: Monique Lhuillier; Veil: Rivini; After-Party Outfit: Stella McCartney; Photography: Anthony Vazquez Photography, New York, NY; Cinematography: Joseph Edwards Films, New York, NY

We wish you countless years of happiness Nicole and Eric and a big thank you to Edward Neary of Joseph Edwards Films for letting us share this with our viewers!

Ayala Yasgur and David Lallouz were married at a country club on Long Island near where Ayala grew up. Surprised They Hadn’t Met Before: Angelina & Charles Get Married

Monday, March 19th, 2012

You know you had a great time when you perspire. Angelina and Charles look like they had so much fun at their northern New Jersey wedding last August. I think Joseph Edwards Films perspective comes through crystal clear with their cinematography: the perfect marriage between a subtle eye and conveying a sense of energy. So, now I think the only thing to do is dance. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Angelina Troia and Charles Sferlazza
Married in Garfield, New York on August 14, 2011

Angelina Troia and Charles Sferlazza met on a weekend trip to Atlantic City for Angelina’s cousin’s birthday, who also happened to be one of Charlie’s best friends. Surprised that they had never met before, they hit it off right away and have been together ever since.

They were married four years later surrounded by 300 of their closest friends and family members at The Venetian in Garfield, New Jersey. “It was the first and the last venue we visited,” remembers Angelina. Once the couple saw the large ballroom with its chandelier-strung high ceilings and tasted the delicious food, they knew that this is the place where they would get married.

Although the weather didn’t cooperate, and there was 10 inches of rain that day, it still turned out to be the perfect day that Angelina and Charles had always imagined it would be.

Videographer: Joseph Edwards Films, New York, NY; Location: The Venetian, Garfield, NJ; Florist: Pedestals Floral Decorators, Garden City Park and New York, NY; Stationery: The Wedding Company, Manhasset, NY; Lighting: Magic Moments Productions, Garfield, NJ; Entertainment: The Voices Music, Brooklyn, NY; Transportation: All Star Limo, Lindenhurst, NY; Hair: Bella Luna Hair Salon, Roslyn Heights, NY; Makeup: Chante Cutter, Damali NYC, New York, NY; Headpiece and Veil: Denise Leli, Manhasset, NY; Wedding Gown: Bridal Reflections, Carle Place, Massapequa and New York, NY; Photography: Anthony Vazquez Photography, New York, NY

Inside Scoop on Planning a Wedding at The Roosevelt, New York

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

For your New York City wedding, The Roosevelt Hotel offers a storybook setting in one of the city’s few remaining traditional ballrooms. Spacious enough to host cocktail receptions of up to 1,000 guests, the spectacular Grand Ballroom’s magnificent and original Swarovski chandeliers and the gold-gilded 27-foot-tall ceiling, iron-laced balconies and enormous arched windows create an unforgettable backdrop on your wedding day. The Ballroom Foyer is perfect for your Cocktail Reception providing ample space and privacy from the rest of the hotel.

Fernioosh Khosravi is the senior manager for weddings and special events at The Rooselvelt Hotel. With 10 years of experience, each of Ferinoosh’s projects, whether for a private party or corporate event, a lavish wedding or a charity ball, is a distinctive work of art. Ferinoosh’s expertise has brought a lot of celebrity attention to the hotel. Fernioosh was able to give us an exclusive peek into planning a wedding at the The Roosevelt Hotel and the unique services they offer for brides to be.

The Roosevelt HotelGO: What is your unique role when it comes to a couple’s wedding day?
FK: If I can sum it up in one word, it will be “Peace of Mind”! That is my most important role on the day of the wedding. I am here to ensure all the things we discuss during the planning stages are executed the right way and to coordinate all the details.

GO: How does your property distinguish a couple’s experience as opposed to getting married somewhere else?
FK: I would say “Personal Touch”, “Flexibility” and “Thinking outside the box” are some of the most important key factors. We show them we care and this is not just another piece of business for us. With “One on One sessions”, “Bridal Camps”, Blogs and Twitter advices I make them feel confident about our services, what to expect and what they need to know. We educate them good by educating them about new trends and ideas. Most of my weddings will be twitted live the same night, this way couples can see the room every week with different arrangements and get ideas about their own.

GO: From start to finish, what can a couple expect if they choose to get married at your property?
FK: “Dedication” is what I would say they could expect from our team from the beginning to the end. As I mentioned we do not look at our weddings as another piece of business rather we look at it as what it is: A very special day and because of our point of view, we give them comfort and peace of mind. From the time they sign contract, they will receive a “wedding timeline” and “a list of recommendations.”  This will be their guide throughout the planning stages. We always recommend joining my twitter account to get up-dates and special offers to help with their planning.

Once they hire most of their vendors, we ask them to come in for a food tasting, table presentation and review of the timeline.

With the food choice in hand and all the planning details and time line full of information, we will put a formal plan together preparing what we call “Wedding (Banquet) Event Order”. BEO is normally about four to five page long and it contains all the details starting with the time of the contract. Details entails of rooms set ups, colors, decorations, stage and dance floor sizes, vendors information, emergency contact numbers, decorating details and other important information such as coat check, car reservations, valet services, piano tuning, room reservations and diagrams.

GO: If you had to describe your property in three words, what would they be?
FK: Classic, Grand and Timeless!

GO: What are the unique locations that a couple can host their ceremony and reception at in your venue?
FK: We are home to two of the few remaining classic ballrooms in New York City. The Grand Ballroom and The famous Terrace Ballroom.

The Grand Ballroom is located on the mezzanine level, featuring original Swarovski chandeliers designed exclusively for the Roosevelt Hotel. Encircling the ballroom is our balcony framed by gold and black railing.

The Terrace Ballroom; which is connected by a few steps to the Palm Court is the smaller and more intimate one. Graced by authentic Tiffany chandeliers, crystal scones, and floor to ceiling windows dressed with brown and gold silk drapes.

GO: Do you have areas where a couple can elect to take their wedding pictures at your property?
FK: Yes, we have our rooftop lounge Mad46 with spectacular views. Vander bar, which is unique in location and has been called a “Local corner cosmopolitan New York.” Our mezzanine floor balcony overlooking the lobby is another fantastic location for pictures, which in most of the pictures can capture our antique lobby chandelier. Another very interesting location will be our famous “Palm Court” with 20th century antique mirror, marbles, wallpapers and murals.

GO: Do you have customizable packages? Tell me a little bit about them?
FK: Yes, due to our “Outside the Box” thinking and vision, we are very open to mix and match packages. We provide one basic package, and then, we offer changes into that package. For example, couples are allowed to cut things out of their package and use the money elsewhere within the same package. They can change or add some of the options from our banquet menus. If they are of any specific ethnicity we offer either “ethnic station or passed hors d’oeuvres.” Some clients have special drinks such as special wine or whisky from their country of origin and we will allow that to be added to their package. Other special customized ideas are for example in our Greek wedding we had Rack of Lamb on each table, in our Russian wedding we had a bottle of Vodka and special Caspian Sea Caviar on each table, Persian wedding; a tray of Saffron rice and Italian of course we have local special recipe and recently we had Irish station set up for our Irish couple.

GO: Food is such an important element at a wedding; tell me about your menus/culinary team?
FK: Our executive Chef, Rupert Leitner has more than 25 years of experience in the culinary field. As Executive Chef at The Roosevelt Hotel, Chef Rupert has elevated the level of fine dining at the historic 84-year-old landmark. With early inspiration from his grandmother and mother, he graduated from culinary school in Villach, Austria and began his culinary career in Europe traveling to Switzerland, France and Sweden. In 1982, Leitner moved to the U.S.

GO: What is the first thing a couple should do if they are interested in getting married at your property?
FK: Putting the space on hold is the first step. The next step will be scheduling a time to visit us one more time to go over preliminary details in order to originate the first draft of their wedding contract.

Full of Great Moments: Morgan & Nick Get Married

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

For me, Morgan and Nick’s wedding is the perfect example of how you can keep things simple and add big impact just by deciding how to spend your budget. What am I talking about you ask? Lighting. This is one of the biggest ways to add that wow factor to your wedding day: it creates a mood and sets the stage for the entire night. Of course, I might be biased growing up around my uber talented brother Tony of Ormonde Productions, but I think it is a category that is often overlooked and never should be.

Other things I love about this Philadelphia wedding are Morgan’s elegantly simple Romona Keveza gown, those watercolor-esque invitations by Wedding Paper Divas and those small little details like the horseshoe on Morgan’s bouquet.

PS – I also love that they opted to donate money to charity (PAWS) in lieu of traditional favors. Such a smart decision.

Morgan and Nicholas
Married in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 5, 2010

Morgan and Nicholas met at Loyola University. Nick told her she was “the most beautiful girl in the world” as he saw her coming out of a bar late one night, then tried hailing her a cab. She laughed him off, but then asked around about him. He did the same and mutual friends hooked them up.

Elegant, chic, sophisticated, fun and full of great moments are just a few words that describe what Morgan and Nick wanted for their wedding. Their ceremony was held at Old St. Joseph’s Church right near Independence Hall in Philadelphia. It is a beautiful old church with a cobblestone courtyard, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Old City/Society Hill. After the ceremony, Morgan and Nick ventured into the gardens behind the First Bank Building where “really pretty grass and trees with old buildings peak through.” It is “a nice little nature hideaway,” says Morgan, adding: “Just make sure you get a photo permit if you are doing wedding photos there.”

Morgan looked stunning in her Romona Keveza wedding gown and Nick looked handsome in Roberto Cavalli. The reception was held at The Franklin Institute, which boasts an elegant marble foyer with large pillars, archways and Benjamin Franklin himself presiding. Guests had cocktails in the adjoining exhibits, which included a huge walkthrough heart, skeletons on bicycles and homemade electricity. The couple chose flowers in pinks and jewel tones. “I especially loved the three different centerpieces,” says Morgan. They also used tables of varying sizes, which helped add to the visual interest.

Where it Would Take Them: Jamie & Arnold Get Married

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

I am on my way to New York again for our fashion/cover shoot and wanted to share a little New York love with this wedding. Not sure how many of you know about Max & Chloe jewelry, but it makes for great gift ideas for your maids or moms, and they even have a great selection of diamond and fine jewelry pieces for the bride. Owned by the couple we are featuring today, Jamie Rubin and Arnold Kovelman’s New York City wedding was an elegant and contemporary Jewish ceremony followed by a grand reception at Capitale. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Jamie Rubin and Arnold Kovelman
Married in New York, New York on June 13

Jamie Rubin and Arnold Kovelman met at the Maritime Hotel in New York on a beautiful summer night. They almost instantly knew that they complimented each other perfectly, and after dating for only a few months they started a jewelry business together. Not realizing where it would take them, their business grew very quickly and so did their love and respect for one another.

Being in the jewelry business, “Arnold custom designed a gorgeous radiant-cut diamond ring that was a total surprise,” remembers Jamie. “On our three-year anniversary we got engaged at the spot of our first date.” From the moment they got engaged they knew that they would get married in New York City since it is where they met and fell in love.

“Capitale has amazing architecture and an elegant feel that made us choose it for our venue,” says Jamie. “We wanted to keep our décor very modern and glamorous without being overdone.” During the ceremony they wanted the ceiling to be lit up in blue so that it would feel like the sky. For the reception, lucite candles and white flowers were used along with lighting to give the room a glow. While it rained on Jamie and Arnold’s wedding day, Jamie smiled pointing out that it is said to bring good luck and fortune. “We had a perfect wedding and start to our new life together,” she says.

Common Roots: Lorena & Ricardo Get Married

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

When I first saw Lorena and Ricardo’s wedding, I was blown away by the cultural, multi-part event. From their ceremony in the grand church in downtown Oaxaca, Mexico, to when they paraded the streets in a procession, the photos against the old building facades, the amazing reception venue for their intimate party, to the spiritual ceremony at the end … it seemed like an amazing celebration of both the couple and their commitment to one another. There is always something special about destination weddings and I find something particularly authentic about ones that take place in Mexico. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. Felicitaciones!

Lorena Droba and Ricardo Rodriguez
Married in Oaxaca, Mexico on March 14, 2010

Lorena Droba and Ricardo Rodriguez met while working on Wall Street. They became good friends, but the fast-paced lifestyle only allowed them to see a certain side of each other. It wasn’t until they got away from it all (on a trip that they had originally planned with friends) to explore the rainforests and Caribbean coast of Ricardo’s home country, Nicaragua, that they saw their common roots and family values. It was love in paradise! They realized that their lives had much more in common than their city life, and their deep friendship blossomed into something so much more.

They were married in Lorena’s birth city of Oaxaca, Mexico. It was the perfect old world setting, where indigenous, pre-Colombian and colonial influences converge. Romantic cobblestone streets, cascading bougainvilleas, ancient monasteries with fading original frescoes, and bubbling fountains in moonlit courtyards were just a few of the inspirations for their fairytale wedding. The wedding emphasized both of their cultures with folkloric dancers and musicians, traditional rituals, famous Oaxacan cuisine, and favors made by local craftsmen and artisans.
