Leyna Tran and Tho Doan
Married in Costa Mesa, California on June 30, 2012
According to Leyna:
Being the owner of Leyna’s Kitchen, where I specialize in cupcakes, having a sweets table just wasn’t enough, so I created a pink and white “Sweets Lounge,” which consisted of a custom chandelier cupcake tower filled with my award-winning Strawberrilicious cupcakes, an attendant making fresh organic cotton candy, 40 glass domes filled with pink and white Parisian macaroons and imported Valrhona chocolate truffles.
Wanting to do something equally extraordinary for my husband, I reached out to my friends at Hennessy and they surprised us with launching their newly-remodeled VSOP bottle and gifted us a stunning custom bar with our monogram right across the front to match our wedding. It was spectacular!
I am naturally very detailed so almost everything was custom. We created surprise elements throughout the evening for our guests, as well as for each other. My husband was in a music video for a famous Vietnamese singer, Trish, called “Ever After.” We chose that song for our first dance, and I had arranged for her to make a surprise appearance. Tho in turn, pleasantly surprised me with fireworks.
My sister, Kim Meredith, is the owner and floral designer of Letu Floral Design. She did such an incredible job creating my Chanel bridal bouquet purses, a floral chandelier for the ceremony, and had hanging miniature chandeliers inside the vase of every centerpiece at the reception in addition to the breathtakingly beautiful large bouquets on top.
Our venue, Turnip Rose, allowed me to bring in my own chefs. Our menu was entirely custom to us, “Bride’s Pink Soup” which was a chilled beet soup with crème fraîche and caviar, table side service, and the “Groom’s Bacon Salad” which was actually Pork Belly and heirloom tomatoes. To show our gratitude we gifted our chefs with jackets with our monogram embroidered with their names.

Metallics and pastels are all the rage this Spring/Summer 2012 season. These Christian Louboutin leather heels certainly fit the bill for both! xoxo

I look forward to wearing you for many more years to come!
I am on my way to New York again for our fashion/cover shoot and wanted to share a little New York love with this wedding. Not sure how many of you know about Max & Chloe jewelry, but it makes for great gift ideas for your maids or moms, and they even have a great selection of diamond and fine jewelry pieces for the bride. Owned by the couple we are featuring today, Jamie Rubin and Arnold Kovelman’s New York City wedding was an elegant and contemporary Jewish ceremony followed by a grand reception at Capitale. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Jamie Rubin and Arnold Kovelman
Married in New York, New York on June 13
Jamie Rubin and Arnold Kovelman met at the Maritime Hotel in New York on a beautiful summer night. They almost instantly knew that they complimented each other perfectly, and after dating for only a few months they started a jewelry business together. Not realizing where it would take them, their business grew very quickly and so did their love and respect for one another.
Being in the jewelry business, “Arnold custom designed a gorgeous radiant-cut diamond ring that was a total surprise,” remembers Jamie. “On our three-year anniversary we got engaged at the spot of our first date.” From the moment they got engaged they knew that they would get married in New York City since it is where they met and fell in love.
“Capitale has amazing architecture and an elegant feel that made us choose it for our venue,” says Jamie. “We wanted to keep our décor very modern and glamorous without being overdone.” During the ceremony they wanted the ceiling to be lit up in blue so that it would feel like the sky. For the reception, lucite candles and white flowers were used along with lighting to give the room a glow. While it rained on Jamie and Arnold’s wedding day, Jamie smiled pointing out that it is said to bring good luck and fortune. “We had a perfect wedding and start to our new life together,” she says.

I love feeling the embrace of various cultures at weddings. While western ceremonies will always remain elegant, Indian, Chinese and Jewish ceremonies are just a few that, when captured well in wedding pictures, intrigue me. Chelsea and Omid’s Persian and western wedding ceremonies at Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Coast, California are romantic, elegant and timeless and I hope that you enjoy them as much as I did!
Chelsea McKnight and Omid Navran
Married in Newport Coast on August 14, 2010
Chelsea McKnight and Omid Navran met through a mutual friend who had kept it to herself that she thought they would be perfect together. Upon their initial meeting Chelsea and Omid thought that their time would be short lived due to college plans, but they quickly realized that they would both be attending the same college that fall: University of California, Santa Barbara.
If you ask Chelsea’s friends they will tell you that in the early days of their relationship Chelsea would casually say: “I’m pretty sure I’ll marry that guy.” Five years later that proved to be true when Omid proposed in the same town where their romance would turn into a lifetime commitment.
They decided to get married at the Pelican Hill Resort in California’s breathtaking Newport Coast. In order to honor both of their families they decided to have two ceremonies: an intimate Persian Sofreh Aghd followed by the traditional Western ceremony. Both beautiful and special in their own ways, they wouldn’t have had it any other way. Well, that is, unless you gave Omid the option of Vegas.
The day went perfectly thanks to planner Jeannie Savage. Omid’s favorite part was that, while Chelsea was able to get her vows in Farsi down pat, she seemed to have more trouble with her vows in English. Chelsea and Omid share the love of laughter, travel, hip-hop and animals. One unique aspect of their wedding was that they requested no gifts, but rather a donation to the Humane Society or Smile Train.

I choose weddings for so many reasons. I thought this one was perfectly sweet and intimate. Juliet is stunning, the photography is evocative and they packed so many personal sentiments into such a small affair. It brings me back to something that Mindy Weiss said in a story we ran a couple of years ago: “It doesn’t matter in the end how many flowers you have. Envision a hurricane sweeping everything away. All you’re going to think about is: He’s still there.”
Juliet Mantiply and Andrew Schoenthal
Married in Yountville, California on October 17, 2009
Talk about setting the tone with the wedding invitation: the October 17, 2009 wedding of Juliet Mantiply to Andrew Schoenthal was kicked off with each guest receiving the beautiful hardback French Laundry Cookbook with an invitation tucked inside! Juliet and Andrew share a love of food and wine, and wanted to bring their New York and California guests together in beautiful Napa Valley to celebrate their marriage.
They chose The French Laundry as the venue and reserved the entire restaurant for their wedding. Touches of the restaurant’s signature blue were woven into the wedding flowers and décor and Juliet wrapped tiny silver cooking spoons around her bouquet—later to be worn as a necklace. The couple was married with the iconic blue door of the restaurant behind them and flower garlands hanging overhead.
After the ceremony and cocktail hour guests were welcomed inside the restaurant for an intimate dinner. Guests found their seat marked with a personalized engraved wooden clothespin along with miniature, boxed cakes to serve as sweet take-home gifts. It was a perfectly unique, first-class experience that Juliet and Andrew were thrilled to share with their family and friends!

How adorable is this sphere-shaped satin clutch by Christian Louboutin. It it called the “Eden Peony Satin Clutch” and has a ruffled floral grossgrain trim. I absolutely adore it’s simplicity yet uniqueness for the fashion forward bride. Let’s not mistake this for a bouquet though, this is something you definitely don’t want to toss! Cheers and Happy Friday!
Like many little girls, the career-driven femme persona of Barbie was always an inspiration to Azeeza while growing up. But the thought was revived when Azeeza attended The Barbie Runway Show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York earlier last year.
Fast-forward to her successful engagement shoot with fiancé Rehan at the Jonathan Adler designed Barbie Suite in the Palms Casino Resort, and there was an abundance of inspiration to plan the Barbie-themed bridal shower at Cuvee in Chicago.
Hostesses Zeenat, Parveen (Azeeza’s other sister), and Asma (Zeenat’s cousin) set the tone with digital invitations designed to look like a magazine filled with pictorials from the engagement shoot. Other details included pictures in front of a step and repeat, a red carpet, makeup station so that guests could achieve the perfect Barbie pink lipstick shade for the soiree, a candy bar station complete with edible Christian Louboutin (the bride’s favorite shoe designer) tied favors, enlarged and framed photos of the engagement shoot, and of course, two official Christian Louboutin Barbie dolls.
In true Barbie style, Azeeza wore a pink dress that she designed and paired it with a pink tweed Chanel handbag, lace tights and a classic pair of Loubie pumps. To match, all three hostesses, along with Azeeza’s sister-in-law, donned pink belts and a part of the toast was dedicated to each hostesses’ favorite “Barbie memory” with Azeeza. Oh, and did I mention that no “Kens” were allowed.

Thank you so much again Azeeza and Zeenat for sharing your incredibly fashionable shower with us. And thank you again to Amna Siddiqui for letting us share your pictures with our readers.
As women, we tend to have love affairs with our shoes.
We obsess, we ogle, we fantasize and we aspire to own—then we buy. And we don’t just throw them in the closet. We invest in fancy organizers and display our shoes like the works of art that they are. When I saw this pair by Christian Louboutin all I could think to myself was: Hello Lover.
