Being a bride is like being part of a secret society. If one bride likes something, it can catch on like wildfire and within days the item is sold out. So when I heard about an artist in Tennessee that was making flowers out of recycled materials, and how brides have adopted them as cake toppers, I wasn’t phased.
Lauren Karnitz, who started out as an oil painter, is using household items like milk jugs, candy wrappers and straws and crafting them into roses, peonies and other hybrid flowers “that have a spirit all their own.” Each flower is custom made and, in my opinion, perfect for the bride that wants the look of a flower executed in a contemporary way. And afterwards, when you’ve had your cake and eaten it too, they can serve as a treasured memento.
Thank you Lauren Karnitz for sharing your art with us!
