Another Year Gone By: Danielle & Chadwick Get Married

While I think that everyone in the industry may agree that the vintage thing has been a bit overdone, we must remember that a bride spends months (and for some, possibly years) dreaming about what she wants for her wedding, and if vintage is it, than she deserves to have a day that is everything she has dreamed of. Plus, I will always love a great birdcage veil, bicycles and fabulous photography. And when I saw this wedding, I wanted to share it because I think it shows that you can always put your own twist on things.

Danielle Marie Whitethorn and Chadwick Dale Horton
Married in Miramar Beach, Florida on October 15, 2010

Another year had gone by and there was another Christmas to celebrate. Although this year would prove to be a little different. Little did Danielle Whitehorn know that she would be meeting her future spouse: Chadwick Horton. “My family had a couple special guests at our Christmas Eve dinner that year,” recalls Danielle. “My uncle, a.k.a. the photographer of Pure7Studios, invited his good friend Chad and his sweet mother over for dinner to join our huge family.”

Danielle and Chad were introduced to each other and talked for a bit, but nothing came of it because Danielle was dating someone at the time. So, she went back to college after break and Chad went back to living his life in Destin, Florida. A year had gone by and she found herself single and back home for Christmas break. With a close friend’s wedding a few months out, Danielle brainstormed with her best friend about who she could take to the wedding, when Chad popped into her head.

“I had no idea if he was single or even still in the area,” explains Danielle, but nevertheless “I decided to go out on a limb and see if I could get in contact with him.” A very uncharacteristic move for her, they began exchanging phone calls and texts, then decided to meet for drinks. “We spent hours talking that night and both of us knew this was something special and were excited to see where it would lead,” Danielle says. It didn’t take long before they realized it was a match, and after eight months Chad was down on one knee asking Danielle to marry him. “I was in complete shock!” remembers Danielle. “We have so much fun together and enjoy many of the same activities—most of which include being outdoors. We are so blessed to have each other.”

When it came time to plan their wedding, it all seemed to start with Danielle’s veil. “I knew I wanted to wear a birdcage veil because I loved the elegance and timelessness,” she says. And so began “my mission to create a vintage-inspired, elegant evening to share with our closest friends and family. I wanted to be able to look back at my wedding pictures 50 years down the road and still appreciate the timelessness of classic vintage style.”

What a gorgeous trio of watches by Chopard! Chopard and Kilchiro Masumura (a well-known Japanese artist) joined forces to created this stunning collection called the L.U.C. XP Urushi collection. What makes these watches extra special are the ancient Japanese techniques called the Urushi and Maki-e that were applied to produce the detailed scenes on the face of each watch. Which watch in the trio is your favorite? Personally, I’m the peacock fan. Cheers and Happy Thursday!

Extreme Bride … and Groom?

Some of you may remember the snowboarding bride we posted a few months back by the fabulous Javon Longieliere, well today’s post involves an extreme bride … and groom.

Picture a 400-foot cliff, a decked out bride and groom, no climbing experience and day break. That’s right, this couple, along with a guide and photographer Jay Philbrick, had a pre-dawn start to their extreme post-wedding photo shoot on the cliffs of Cathedral Ledge in North Conway, New Hampshire. With safety equipment and lighting they were bound and determined to make this shoot happen.

While I am not sure I would ever do something so dangerous hours after exchanging “I Dos,” I suppose there is something sort of blissful about doing it on Cathedral Ledge.

Thank you so much to Jay Philbrick of Philbrick Photography for letting us share these extreme images with our viewers!

Falling In Love: Megan & Stuart Get Married

While this is not typically the way we feature weddings on our blog, the design and execution of this event—thanks to the amazing vision of Megan and Stuart—is so spectacular that I felt compelled to spotlight as many details as possible. And, while I don’t typically like weddings that are too trendy, and sometimes modern to the nines can feel that way, I think everyone did an amazing job at making this event trend setting, but still timeless and elegant. What do you think?

Megan O’Dwyer Thiel and Stuart Thiel
Married in Maimi, Florida on March 6, 2010

Stuart Thiel and Megan O’Dwyer met in middle school when Megan crashed a 7th grade party—she was in 8th grade. After a friendly game of spin the bottle, they became friends. In college they started to realize that their feelings were on a whole different level, but they were still not able to be “exclusive.” With Stuart in Gainesville at the University of Florida and Megan in Boca Raton at Florida Atlantic University, time together was limited. But finally, after Megan graduated college, and Stuart started a masters program, they both happen to find themselves single (for once), and decided to finally be together and leave all of the crazy relationships they had behind forever.

Travel played a major role in both of their lives and they actually have pictures of “each of us standing in exactly the same spot in a few different countries even though we weren’t traveling together!” recalls Megan. “I think he was subliminally following me around the planet!” When they finally had a chance to travel the world together, they found themselves falling in love in China, got engaged in Berlin, had an engagement trip to Ireland to meet Megan’s family, wed in Miami, and honeymooned in Mexico.

When it came time to design the wedding, they were both extremely excited and knew what they wanted. Their only main concern was that they wanted “the party of all parties,” and that’s exactly what they got. “Non-traditional, ultra hip, modern, artistic, and positively US,” describes Megan of the vibe they were going for. “We decided to go with a lounge/nightclub style with no assigned seating.”

The day featured plenty of places to sit, high top tables, couches, a 30-foot mirrored bar, and “VIP” sections where groups of friends and relatives could congregate and basically “have their own party while we made the essential rounds,” says Megan. The floor plan kept the party dynamic and upbeat, with people moving and dancing everywhere. Megan and Stuart also decided against a champagne toast because it gives Megan “a mega headache.” Instead, they went with three different shots: tequila, sake and “something blue”—poured in a monogrammed glasses, which also served as their guest’s favors. “It definitely set the tone for the evening,” says Megan, adding: “it got the party started. It was a perfect evening that defined mine and Stuart’s personalities to a T. Our dreams could never have been realized without the expertise and creativity of Fortuna and the Design 42 team.”

Spotlight on Le Salon Bridal Boutique

Le Salon located in Royal Oak, Michigan and at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago, IL offers the most unique experiences for brides and their couture gowns. After chatting with the staff at Le Salon I was so thrilled to hear about their phenomenal services that they offer each bride. The best way to demonstrate one of their services, “I Before the We” is to show it on video.

“The Couture Shoot” is a day filled of fashion and pampering. First, your day begins with a soothing massage and facial followed by a wine tasting at a local winery. Then after your relaxation sets in, it’s off to hair and make up where you will be prepped for a fashion shoot in your gown at a professional photo studio. It’s an opportunity of a lifetime for the bride to play with a different look before the wedding day and document her couture experience. After the shoot, the bride joins her friends and family back at Le Salon to preview her pictures and enjoy the wine she selected earlier that day. It’s what they call the “I Before the We” experience where a bride can take an entire day to relax and enjoy modeling in her gown and have the entire experience immortalized in her “Couture Book.” Like her own wedding album, the “Couture Book” tells the journey before her wedding, which she can later share with her husband. A modern tradition only available at Le Salon. See “The Couture Shoot” experience documented in the video below.

Finishing touches are covered complimentary up to a 1-inch variance. With Couture Fit, many of our brides don’t require any additional alterations for fit.

Love at First Sight – If a bride finds “The One” during their initial consultation, they can take advantage of Love at First Sight discount on Couture Fit. Love at First Sight is not designed to make any bride feel pressured or rushed. If this is the case, love may be found on the second or third date *wink*

GO: In your own words, describe the “bridal salon experience” that brides will receive when visiting your salon.
LS
: The luxury bridal experience for Le Salon Chicago is one of a kind. Before setting up an appointment, brides go through a complimentary pre-consultation with one of our stylists through Skype to get to know each other and discuss the collection. If it’s a perfect fit, then the bride is booked for an initial consultation. If not, the stylist will recommend other bridal salons that the bride should visit to continue her search.

Consultations are private and are 1-on-1 with the couture consultant handpicking pieces for the appointment that match the client’s style. It is hosted with a skyrise view overlooking the city and Lake Michigan complete with a champagne toast for her and up to 5 guests.

Initial Consultations are $250.00 each. The fees are non-refundable, however, the first appointment’s fee does go towards the purchase of any wedding gown at Le Salon. Pickup and fitting appointments are of course complimentary. Because of our unique process, most Le Salon brides do fall in love the same day of their first appointment.

It is highly recommended and appointments can be denied if a bride has not already tried on bridal gowns. It is important that the bride has narrowed in on her vision, knowing what she likes and doesn’t like, so the couture consultant can give a full consultation.

GO: What are your hours?
LS
: By Appointment Only.

GO: Anything special you want our readers to know?
LS
: The artistic director of Le Salon designed the ultimate couture experience in 2009 when she acquired the Carrie Dress by Vivienne Westwood from Sex in the City. She was selected as one of the three boutiques to have this limited edition gown in the United States. The Couture Shoot is a blend of Ms Williamson’s career as an international wedding photographer and second-generation bridal storeowner. She feels that every bride should have the ultimate couture experience.

Thank you to the lovely staff at Le Salon for giving us a REMARKABLE look to unique services and the ultimate bridal experience!
