Love at First Shoe: Julie & Matthew Get Married

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

I love classic elegance. Nothing to kitchy, nothing too themed. Just gorgeous, tasteful decor. But occasionally a wedding comes along that has a pretty strong theme, and I love it nevertheless. Julie and Matthew’s wedding theme revolved around something that I love: shoes. From her Manolos and his Vans to the sole imprinted and shoe lace bound programs, the shoe horn place card alternatives, shoe and shoe box cake, and the lighted shoe lace monogram, this wedding has it all, but in an understated way. Add a dash of purple and my favorite flower, orchids, and it was love at first shoe … I mean sight.

Julie Vongkhamchanh and Matthew Wong
Married in San Francisco, California on February 1, 2009

She is an investment associate and he is the district owner of a store. How did they meet you ask? “Matthew and I met at his hip streetwear shop: District. It was love at first sneaker,” says Julie Vongkhamchanh of Matthew Wong. Because District and shoes played such a fun symbol in their relationship they found it to be the perfect theme to tie them and their wedding together.

“I was first inspired to create a cake unlike any other,” says Julie. “Why not stack some shoeboxes on top of each other and top the cake off with replicas of our actual wedding shoes? Matt’s white patent leather croc Vans and my silver Manolo Blahniks did the trick.” The theme took off and before they knew it, they were reaching out to their friend Abbie who owns a local design business: Passing Notes.

Abbie helped them create shoe print invitations embedded with their initials, programs tied with a custom shoelace, personalized shoehorns that guided their 200 guests to their tables, and their shoelace logo, which they projected onto the walls of Yoshi’s jazz club. Matt and Julie also displayed their logo alongside a photo on the outdoor marquee and had it hand painted on their aisle runner.

When asked what advice they would give to other couples, Julie and Matt suggest “personalizing what you can; it reflected us as a couple and made everything more fun and creative.” As their love story unfolds they look forward to expanding District and collecting shoes for their future babies.

Location and Caterer: Yoshi’s San Francisco, San Francisco, CA; Cake: Debbie Does Cakes, Oakland, CA; Florist: Mints Design, Alameda, CA; Ceremony Musician: Rick Flores; Band: D’Groove, San Francisco, CA; Logo and Stationery Design: Passing Notes, Oakland, CA; Bridesmaid Dresses: Ralph Lauren; Tuxedos: Selix; Vans: District, Alameda, CA; Hair and Makeup: Diana Wilcenski, Trenz Salon, Burlingame, CA; Accessories: Jewelry by Renee Pawele; Shoes: Manolo Blahnik; Wedding Gown: Junko Yoshioka at Gabrielle’s Bridal Atelier, Campbell, CA; Videography: Curtis Nemetz Productions, San Francisco, CA; Photography: Joel Flory, Flory Photo, San Francisco, CA

We wish you countless years of happiness Julie and Matthew and a big thank you to Joel Flory of Flory Photo for letting us share these images with our viewers!

This masculine timepiece by Harry Winston is the perfect gift for a bride to gift her groom the morning of their wedding. This is the “Midnight Big Date” watch in white gold with black dial. The black dial features a circular guilloché pattern that adds a real modern flair to the watch. My favorite part of this luxurious timepiece is the single diamond that is set right about the large date. It is truly a stunning watch for the ultimate watch connoisseur!

The Inside Scoop on Planning a Wedding at the Four Seasons Hotel Seattle, WA

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

In the heart of downtown Seattle, close to the Pike Place Market and the Seattle Art Museum, lays the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel Seattle; a perfect site to host your wedding reception. We had the exclusive opportunity to chat with Kirk Sugamele, Director of Catering and Conference Services at the hotel. He was able to give us some insight into this unique hotel’s wedding services. With over 30 years of experience in the food and beverage industry, including 20 with the Four Seasons, Kirk was able to give us a sneak peek into how the Four Season’s Seattle caters to all a bride’s wishes for her special day.

Four Season Hotel Seattle

GO: What is your unique role when it comes to a couple’s wedding day and how does your property distinguish a couple’s experience as opposed to getting married somewhere else?
KS
: Our hotel managers average over 30 years of experience with weddings, working with wedding couples from start to finish on their wedding, including full day of services.

GO: What can a couple expect if they choose to get married at your property?
KS
: A couple can expect to be treated with the highest level of professionalism, attention to details and the service that Four Seasons is legendary for. We provide a seamless and stress free event for our wedding couples.

GO: If you had to describe your property in three words, what would they be?
KS
: Views, Food and Service!

GO: What are the unique locations that a couple can host their ceremony and reception at in your venue?
KS
: The view from out hotel is a huge attraction for our wedding couples. Our Ballroom and Foyer areas have floor to ceiling windows up to 18′ tall that overlook Elliott Bay, Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains and stunning sunsets. Our location just north of the Washington State Ferry Terminal offers our guests a view bird’s eye view of the ferry boats coming and going, and the lights across Elliott Bay to West Seattle and Bainbridge Island sparkle at night.

We are fortunate to be able to accommodate both ceremonies and receptions in our Ballroom. Our ceremonies take place in our Ballroom, with the bride and groom in front of the 18 foot tall windows, artfully draped with a sheer fabric to define the bride and groom.

GO: Do you have areas where a couple can elect to take their wedding pictures at your property?
KS
: We are blessed with many picturesque locations for wedding photos. The signature shot at our hotel is with a bride and groom posed at the end of our infinity pool on our fourth floor pool deck, with Elliott Bay and a spectacular sunset unfolding behind them. Our wedding couples also pose at our Grand Fireplace in the lobby, our Wine Wall in ART Restaurant, posed in front of our large format NW Masterpiece art collection in our lobby, as well as shooting around the neighborhood: Pike Place Market, the Gum Wall, Harbor Steps, the waterfront.

GO: Do you have customizable packages? Tell me a little bit about them?
KS
: We have three tiers of wedding packages, all including hourly bar packages with unlimited consumption to make the planning and budgeting process easy for our wedding couples.

GO: Food is such an important element at a wedding; tell me about your menus and culinary team?
KS
: Our cuisine is really one of our strongest attributes. We are very fortunate to have Kerry Sear as our executive chef. In my 33 years in the business, Kerry is the absolute most creative
chef I have ever worked with. Consistently our food receives the highest accolades from our guests. We offer a menu tasting for every wedding, to ensure there are no surprises on the wedding day.

GO: What is the first thing a couple should do if they are interested in getting married at your property?
KS
: Arrange for a site for a truly unique Four Seasons experience! With unique features such as a full service spa for wedding parties, an amazing collection of art from the Pacific Northwest Masters, fantastic views, modern clean and sophisticated décor, the Four Seasons Hotel Seattle is the perfect location for your wedding!

Thank your Kirk Sugamele for giving GO a look into your beautiful hotel!

Monday, July 25th, 2011

Last week, I had the honor to share with you a video by Andrew Hsu of Studio MSV titled “California Mission Shoot.” Today, I want to share with you a few photographs from that shoot by the ever so talented Gustavo Fernandez. Hope you enjoy and thanks so much for sharing with us!

California Mission Shoot
July 21st, 2011

I recently received this enchanting video from Andrew Hsu of Studio MSV and photographed by the talented Gustavo Fernandez and had to share it because of its romantic charm and unique ambiance. Named the “California Mission Shoot,” — inspired by the mission replica building of the Cline Cellars property where the shoot takes place in Sonoma, CA — tells the story of a gorgeous, young couple who made the mission their home and wanted to design a wedding around the lush areas that Sonoma has to offer. Olive branches, a cross and some antique, vintage details come to life to relive the “old world” feeling of California mission days. Thank you Andrew for sharing this with us and job well done to all the amazing talent who joined forces to paint such a vivid picture of past mission days.

Today is all about the glitz and glam and this de Grisogono ring is all about the bling! This gorgeous pink gold ring is set with an oval cabochon pink coral stone of 56.62ct, 295 white diamonds and 558 brown diamonds. A ring of this caliber definitely deserves to be put in a museum! While it may not suit everyone’s tastes, it sure has that WOW factor and makes me smile every time I look at it. Enjoy and Happy Thursday!
