In search of the perfect photographer and cinematographer, Penny yearned for someone that was not only capable of excellent quality, but also someone with a fashion flare. In short: she was searching for that “wow factor,” which would give their memories an artistic touch. The wedding was photographed by Nikos Gogas and filmed by Urban Cinematography. “This crew was our little secret,” Penny smiles. “To this day I continue to enjoy the reactions from others when we proudly display the memories of our special day.” Penny truly appreciated the effort, quality and results of the talented group, which she highly recommends for any occasion.
As much as the couple was focused on the elegant details of the wedding, the biggest priority for them was for all of their guests to have a memorable time as they had collectively travelled to Greece from six continents and then drove more than four hours from Athens to Monemvasia to be a part of the festivities. The party ended at almost 8 a.m. thanks to the wonderful efforts of DJ Stefano Fren and singer, Vaggelis Alkimos, who had almost all of their 370 guests dancing through the night and into the next morning.
Penny Kallas and George Retsos
Married on July 4, 2009 in Monemvasia, Greece
Penny and George grew up on opposite ends of the world—Penny in Vancouver, British Columbia and George in Pretoria, South Africa. George later immigrated to New York after receiving his master’s degree and it was there that he met Ginny, Penny’s best friend, through mutual acquaintances who recommended that the two meet. Bound for New York to visit college friends in 2006, Penny met George in a bustling club and it was love at first sight.
Although Ginny was right, love didn’t come easy. George succumbed to the demands of his work, while Penny’s strong family ties kept her in Canada, so a two-year long distance relationship ensued. “It actually wasn’t that difficult,” George remarks. “I always ended up working late, so when I got home late every night, the three hour difference in Vancouver worked in our favor and it was convenient for us to talk over the phone for a few hours. I think that it would’ve been much more difficult if we lived in the same city or even the same time zone!”
During that time, they rendezvoused in different cities. “It was like a monthly vacation for me,” smiles Penny. For George: “As much fun as it was, I ended up working the entire time, so it was just great for us to be in each other’s company.” Then in 2008, Penny decided to follow her dreams and pursue a career in the high paced and fickle NYC fashion industry.
Once they were living in the same city, it only took George six months to realize the caliber of his perfect companion before they were engaged beachside in Aruba. “It’s quite a funny story actually,” recalls George. “Penny wanted to go to a wedding in Vancouver and I didn’t want to go. So I used it as an excuse to propose at an alternate venue,” he explains of his suggestion to “enjoy a relaxing vacation in Aruba instead.” But George couldn’t seem to arrange a mutually-convenient time to sneak off to Vancouver to ask for Penny’s dad’s hand in marriage, with his career prompting travel. So, going against his plan, “I ended up going to the wedding in Vancouver, as that was the only opportunity that I had to get to speak to Penny’s dad face to face,” says George.
Shortly thereafter, in 2009, the couple wed amongst the ancient ruins of Monemvasia (a favorite destination among Penny’s family) in what they described as “a fairytale wedding.” Both of Greek decent, they agreed that it was the perfect place for their nuptials as George’s and Penny’s fathers’ villages were only an hour away and Penny had always dreamed of getting married there. Guests were awed by the site of ruins within the castle of Monemvasia, which had an enchanting and magical aura.

Opening this past November, the St. Regis Bahia Beach is a luxury, brand new hotel offering only the best services to brides and their parties. Located in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, the hotel provides the best venue for your destination wedding. With amazing bridal and catering services, the St. Regis Hotel at Bahia Beach is the perfect place to hold your beautiful wedding. We had the fine privilege of speaking to the Director of Catering and Conference Services, Geraldine Farulla who gave us a little background on the wonderful services this hotel has to offer.
GO: How long have you worked in this industry and tell me a little bit about your experience?
GF: I have been in the hotel industry, for approximately 26 years always in Catering and Conference Services as it allows for you to work directly with your customer from beginning to end, allows for a lot of creativity, is always changing and entails working with many different markets.
GO: What is your unique role when it comes to a couple’s wedding day?
GF: I firmly believe that with weddings, it is our job to make this the greatest day for the bride, groom and immediate family. I will guide them, advise them and build an experience based on their tastes, preferences and those of their guests. With a wedding, there is a lot of emotional and first time experiences involved, as majority of couples are planning a wedding for the first time. Thus you have to educate them, while at the same time having a great deal of understanding.
At the St. Regis Bahia Beach, we take pride in providing a hand-crafted and customized experience that touches every part of their celebration; from the transportation from the airport to their experience upon arrival, to our Executive Chef who actively participates in menu design for our brides and our Personal Brides’ lady in waiting, who will be there to assist with anything the bride may need as she gets ready for that big day. Alejandra Soto and I personally take care of all brides from beginning to end so that they have one primary contact.
GO: From start to finish, what can a couple expect if they choose to get married at your property?
GF: They can expect to feel special, understood, and well taken care of. They can expect for us to meet and go beyond their expectations.
GO: If you had to describe your property in three words, what would they be?
GF: Extraordinary, Captivating, Paradise!
GO: What are the unique locations that a couple can host their ceremony and reception at in your venue?
GF: Located along almost two miles of pristine beach and on a Nature Reserve, the St. Regis Bahia Beach has two manicured ocean front lawns for private events, an intimate tree covered terrace outside the main Ballroom with thoughtful lighting, and built in event pavilion. In addition, we have beautiful indoor banquet spaces to accommodate anywhere from 10 to 190 for a seated formal dinner or 250 for a reception style setting, as well as our ocean front clubhouse, Molasses, which has indoor and outdoor seating and can accommodate up to 150 guests. Our boat house is the ideal venue for a private engagement dinner or cocktail reception for out of town guests and overlooks the 63 acres of lakes and waterways which make up part of Bahia Beach.
GO: Do you have areas where a couple can elect to take their wedding pictures at your property?
GF: I can only say that the entire property looks like a postcard and the opportunities for photographs are limitless.
GO: Do you have customizable packages? Tell me a little bit about them?
GF: We have created wedding packages which are updated twice a year and allow the bride/planner to create her own package. More importantly, we place a great deal of emphasis on customizing the entire experience, and with the active participation of the Executive Chef, we create a fully customized package.
GO: Food is such an important element at a wedding, tell me about your menus and culinary team?
GF: Our culinary team is young, creative, and all native Puerto Ricans who carved out their professions in renowned hotels and restaurants in the mainland US and have come back to the St. Regis to be a part of this incredible resort. The menus reflect what our property is; a former Sugarcane and Coconut Plantation, dating back over 100 years, full of local flavor and flair, while maintaining the elegance and tradition of the St. Regis.
GO: What is the first thing a couple should do if they are interested in getting married at your property?
GF: It is important to have an idea of the dates, number of guests that they will have in order that we may confirm availability. It is very helpful to have an idea of what they are looking for so that we can customize the experience.
GO: Does your property have any unique features that you would like us to share with our readers?
GF: We are in the process of further developing our website to reflect current photographs post opening, but can already offer brides the option to set up a website where guests can make their reservations, and brides can provide information regarding their events, agenda, and are likewise able to review their guest lists, etc.
Thank you Geraldine for giving us a peak into your BEAUTIFUL new hotel!

As you all know, I’m a bit obsessed with shoes. When I saw these shoes by Alexander McQueen, I literally fell off my chair with how exquisite they are. These are “Sculpted Resin and Leather Sandals” and are perfect for the bride having a summer garden wedding. Cheers and Happy Tuesday!
I am a huge lover of cuffs. Especially real statement pieces that add a major “wow” factor to your wrist. I feel in love with this cuff by John Hardy for it’s exquisite detailing and exotic design. This is called the Crown Kick Cuff in 18K Gold and is inspired by the artisan’s of Bali. What I love most about this piece is how easy it can transition between your day ensemble to your evening ensemble. Hope you enjoy and Happy Monday!
Here is a teaser for Monday’s wedding of the week on www.weddingstylemagazine.com.
There are few things more romantic than Paris. Located in the Loire Valley, a few hours outside of the city, Chateau de Challain is certainly a contender and it is nothing short of spectacular. This castle is befitting of any couple that wants to feel royal on their wedding day. With its incredible views, manicured gardens and unbelievable architecture, it was the perfect place for Lindsey Marie, a native Texan, to marry Ludovic Nicolas Jerome, a French man whom she met at a Christmas party while traveling through London.
Things I love: if you don’t have an exorbitant budget, but you want a luxurious look, candles make the world of difference. I adore all of the candles, the fireworks, Lindsey Marie’s Monique Lhuillier wedding gown and so much more, you will just have to wait to see.
Thank you so much to Javon Longieliere for sharing this wedding with us and be sure to look out for the full feature on Monday. Have a great weekend!
A few week’s back, I received this enticing submission from Anthony Vazquez Photography. I review so many bridal inspired submissions that it was refreshing to see a shoot targeted towards men. I love Anthony’s fresh style and modern approach to his photography. The look and feel of these photographs are exquisite and not to mention so is the model! Hope you enjoy these images as much as I do and Happy Friday! xoxo

I am a huge fan of Philippines-based designer Bea Valdes. Her designs are amazingly unique and immaculately produced. I had a chance to view the entire collection at the Couture Bridal Market in NYC this past April and was blown away with how fresh and distinct the collection was. Her evening bags are true works of art and today’s and I had to share my favorite piece from her latest collection. Cheers and Happy Friday!
Corsets not only look amazingly sexy but they also are a very important undergarment for every woman to have. This handcrafted, romantic lace corset by Rosamosario has a stunning black overlay that will keep your silhouette sleek. A perfect piece to wear on your wedding night. Cheers and Happy Thursday. xoxo
